Adaptive Scholarships
Adaptive Program Overview
The Adaptive Scuba Scholarship Program provides two full scholarships per quarter (8 annually) to individuals with adaptive needs who dream of experiencing the underwater world.
By removing financial barriers, providing tailored instruction, and prioritizing participant safety, this program delivers life-changing access to the ocean through PADI Adaptive Scuba certification pathways.
Program Structure & Roadmap
Prerequisites
Applicants submit a basic questionnaire detailing their motivation and adaptive requirements. Candidates must obtain a signed PADI Medical Statement approved by a licensed physician before engaging in any water activities.
Discover Scuba Assessment
- Evaluation & Readiness
- Scholarship recipients begin with a customized Discover Scuba Experience in a confined water environment (pool). Adaptive Instructors assess individual physical capability, water comfort, and gear adaptation needs to establish a personalized learning path.
Academic Preparation
- eLearning
- Participants complete PADI Open Water Diver eLearning at their own pace. Course materials are accessible via screen readers, closed captioning, and flexible digital platforms to suit diverse learning styles.
Confined Water Skills
- Pool Training
- Recipients practice buoyancy control, gear handling, and safety techniques in a controlled pool setting. Adaptive techniques and support personnel are integrated based on each diver's unique functional profile.
Open Water Certification
Participants complete four open-water checkout dives. Divers who fulfill all standardized performance requirements earn their PADI Open Water Diver certification; those requiring ongoing assistance may earn the PADI Scuba Diver certification or specialized adaptive participant recognition.

Medical Safety & Eligibility
- Physician Clearance: Mandatory sign-off using the standardized RSTC / PADI Medical Questionnaire
- Medical Review Team: Local diving physicians or Dive Medicine specialists review complex files prior to pool sessions.
Adaptive Instruction Standards
- Led by PADI Adaptive Facility staff and certified PADI Adaptive Techniques Instructors.
- Specialized gear provided: adaptive harnesses, webbed gloves, quick-release weight systems, and accessible entry platforms.
Financial Coverage (What the Scholarship Includes)
- 100% of PADI eLearning digital course materials.
- Full pool and open water facility fees.
